History
In December 1914 Handley Page received an order of the Royal Navy to develop a bomber with a large range.
The result was a twin engine biplane with a wing span of 30 meter.
It made its first flight in December 1915. After some improvements the aircraft entered production as O/100 and 46 examples were built.
The success of the O/100 resulted in the development of an improved version with more powerful engines, new bomb aiming equipment. Of this type more than 400 examples were built under the designation O/400. In the US 100 examples were built by the Standard Aircraft Corporation.
Versions.
- O/100: original version with two 260 hp Rolls Royce Eagle II;
- O/400: improved version with two 360 hp Royce Eagle;
- O/7: Export version for China for transport of fourteen passengers;
- O/11: Version of the O/7 for transport of passengers and freight.
- O/10: Version for twelve passengers.
